Kenilworth & Southam Lib Dems confirm their General Election candidate

April 24, 2017 4:30 PM

Richard DicksonKenilworth & Southam Liberal Democrats confirm that Richard Dickson is their Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency in the General Election on 8th June.

Richard lives in the heart of Kenilworth and is well-known for his campaigning against a hard Brexit and his organisation of the petition against the closure of the local NatWest branch. He has also created the 'Friends of...' groups for three local parks and led the collection of donated items in Kenilworth for Calais refugees in 2015.

Richard currently runs a national education charity, having previously worked in the financial services sector throughout the Midlands and in London.

Richard said "having campaigned actively during last year's referendum campaign, it was clear that there was a significant majority of people in Kenilworth & Southam who supported a 'Remain' vote. Many more oppose the reckless decision of this hard-right Conservative government - in which our MP has played a key role - to pursue a 'hard Brexit' which could have disastrous consequences for many local employers."

A recent internal poll by the Conservative party predicted they could lose the 27 seats they gained from the Lib Dems at the last election.

Richard said: "This Election is about two things: Brexit and public services. I'll be campaigning hard from today until 8th June and making the case that anyone who wants to avoid a disastrous hard Brexit and who wants to keep investment in vital public services, such as education, health and social care, the only party to vote for is the Liberal Democrats."

"The Labour Party is in an absolute mess, so I guess Mrs May cynically saw an opportunity. I think she is prepared to lose seats to the Liberal Democrats."
