Full house in Cubbington Sports & Social Club

Over three hundred local people packed into Cubbington Sports & Social Club yesterday evening for a public meeting about the possibility of large scale housing development at Glebe Farm, Cubbington. This followed another big meeting in Lillington the previous week organised by local Liberal Democrats. Local residents Roger & Sheryl Beard should be congratulated and thanked for all their hard work in organising the event,

Nigel speaking at the meeting

Nigel Rock, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Kenilworth & Southam, gave his total support for local residents in their fight to stop any massive housing development at Glebe Farm, citing the following key reasons:

> Local planning should meet local people's need for homes, not top-down orders from central government. Local communities should be in charge.

> Pluvial flooding (run-off) from the site could be far worse than even the disaster which hit Cubbington three years ago. Building on the fields would be crazy.

> Protecting rare species and the natural habitat was important.

> Traffic implications of the scheme were horrendous - far too many houses in the wrong place for jobs and major shops in the Warwick District area - with a massive impact on local traffic congestion in Cubbington and through Offchurch.

Nigel said: "Preserving the integrity and character of local communities like Cubbington and Offchurch is vital. Local people shouldn't assume that the planners will stick to their original 'preferred options' of other sites to the south of Leamington and Warwick. They need to make their voices heard."

The closing date for consultation responses to be received by Warwick District Council is the 9th April.
