Tim Farron, Lib Dem Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the last parliament, has said:
"I am deeply concerned about the threat to the Horticultural Research Institute at Wellesbourne, run by Warwick University.
"This has been considered by the all party parliamentary group on Science and Technology in Agriculture who have themselves raised concerns.
"Withdrawal of DEFRA funding for this important facility is short sighted. Research into the growing of crops both at home and abroad is an essential component of our response to the potential for climate change. Growing food is probably one of the greatest long term challenges for the world and something of the UK can be rightly proud.
"DEFRA should be urgently seeking a resolution to the threat to HRI Wellesbourne."
Nigel Rock makes this pledge: if elected as your MP, this is something he would press for immediately.
