The proposed High Speed Rail route will go right through the middle of the constituency
The Conservative candidate wants voters to believe that only a vote for him will defend this constituency against the proposed High Speed Rail route.
Nigel Rock says that voters don't want their candidates to play political games with such a vital issue. Since the proposed route was announced, Nigel has been forthright in his opposition to the scheme.
Although a strong supporter of a better rail infrastructure, Nigel believes the current plan is fundamentally flawed. We need shorter journey times through better integrated rail services, not a high speed dash between Birmingham and London that connects to no other services.
Of the two manifestos, it is only the Conservative one that commits to a High Speed Rail line between London Heathrow and Birmingham - and they say they could build it faster than the current plan! So, less consultation with local people?
The Conservative candidate needs to explain what his "existing transport corridor" alternative would mean in detail along the route. The reality is that to get from Heathrow to Birmingham, the Conservatives would have to build their high speed line right through this constituency.
