Nigel Rock attended the home coming of 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers on Wednesday (21st April) as they paraded through the streets of Kenilworth. Watching from among the crowd he saw for himself the genuine warmth towards the soldiers returning after their tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Nigel said what ever your views on the appropriateness of the deployments, everyone should support our brave military personnel for their professionalism. The discipline of the parade ground to make really a good show must be in stark contrast to the rigours of the mission they are called upon to perform.
The parade was led through the streets by Inspector Richard Woodcock of Warwickshire Police.
Nigel went on:
"I want to congratulate the Mayor, Council and indeed the whole town of Kenilworth for the splendid homecoming parade. I was among the crowd watching the parade and inspection of the troops, and thought it was a well organised and executed event. The town responded by showing wonderful support for our soldiers, who I am sure have been through much. I imagine many agencies were involved, including the police, local schools and the military, and I would like to place on record my thanks to you all."
Nigel has written privately to the Mayor Kenilworth to offer his congratulations.
