First elected Stratford District Councillor for the Harbury ward in 2002 and re-elected in 2006, Andrew Patrick (Liberal Democrat) is stepping down in May.
As he puts it, "I have really enjoyed my eight years, and I count it a privilege to have served my fellow-residents in Bishops Itchington, Chesterton, Deppers Bridge and Harbury. It's the right time for me to move on to different things, but I will continue to support the community in every way I can. And it's the right time to hand on to someone with children at school here, and who has energy and enthusiasm.
Richard Tonge
"Which is why I wholeheartedly endorse Richard Tonge to be the next Lib Dem member for Harbury ward. With his professional experience in problem-solving, his commitment to this community, and his passionate belief in a better future, I am convinced he will be an excellent councillor."
Richard Tonge was born in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, and raised in a small rural community. He moved to Harbury in 2007 with his partner Abigail and two sons aged 8 and 10 years. Both children attend the local Harbury primary school.
Since settling into life in Harbury, he has been impressed by the inclusive community spirit and the people of all ages who make this a very special place to live. This is something he would protect and nurture should he be elected into the role of District Councillor.
Previously self employed and working in large organisations in the public and private sector, he now works as an IT specialist in the automotive industry. His training and employment make him an active problem solver who finds innovative ways of resolving issues to a positive outcome.
Richard wants to serve his community, and as a Liberal Democrat supports their clear leadership on issues close to his heart, namely the environment, education and rural affairs which are pivotal to the resolution of this country's problems.
He will endeavour to ensure that each voice matters and that all residents of the community are consulted and have the opportunity to participate in local issues and policy making decisions.
He can assure voters that he will bring fresh thinking, good communication and energetic commitment to all issues in the local community and environment, as he believes passionately in a better future for this and succeeding generations.
Nigel Rock, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Kenilworth & Southam in which Harbury ward is situated, said: "Richard is exactly the kind of energetic person that we need to see more of on our local council. As a District Councillor myself, I know that he will bring a breath of fresh air to representing the best interests of Harbury, Bishops Itchington, Chesterton and Deppers Bridge. Maybe he can shake up the Council too!"
