Nigel Rock, Liberal Democrat PPC for Kenilworth & Southam, has issued the following statement today:-
"I was astonished by the regional news bulletin on TV on Monday evening (14th), as Jeremy Wright MP stood in front of Kenilworth Fire Station promising to fight its threatened closure.
It is a Conservative administration that has brought forward these plans, but now somehow they are trying to convey a message to residents that the Conservatives don't want to close fire stations.
Who is trying to kid whom? These draconian proposals to axe seven Warwickshire fire stations, including Kenilworth and Fenny Compton are being made by the Conservatives running the County Council. I have consistently challenged why this plan has been put together in secret and now we know why. Fire officers may have made recommendations, but it was the Conservative County Cabinet which apparently approved them at a 'closed' meeting in July.
My message to residents served the Kenilworth and Fenny Compton Fire Stations is this - please make your voices heard in opposition to this threatened closure, but don't be fooled by these weasel words from the Conservatives. This looks to me like a question of trust."
