Liz Lynne MEP in Kenilworth market with (L-R) Cllr Ann Blacklock, Luke Richards, Cllr John Whitehouse, Nigel Rock PPC and Kate Dickson
Liz Lynne, the Liberal Democrat MEP for the West Midlands, visited Kenilworth market today as part of her campaign tour of the region in the run up to the European Elections on 4th June. She talked with stall holders and customers, and distributed literature highlighting the key points of her campaign.
Meeting Liz at the market were Nigel Rock, Lib Dem PPC for Kenilworth and Southam, and the three Lib Dem candidates contesting Kenilworth seats in the forthcoming County Council elections also on 4th June - John Whitehouse (Kenilworth Abbey), Pat Ryan (Kenilworth Park Hill) and Kate Dickson (Kenilworth St. John's). Also present were district councillor Ann Blacklock, David Johnston, constituency party chair and Lib Dem county council candidate for Wellesbourne, and Luke Richards, out going President of the University of Warwick Liberal Democrat Society.
At the forefront of many people's minds on the marketplace was clearly the ongoing revelations about Westminster MP's expenses. Liz was able to explain to voters that the European Parliament had in fact taken a lead in cleaning up the whole issue of allowances and expenses some while ago, with the result that one UKIP MEP was prosecuted and convicted, and another is under investigation.
Liz Lynne has been by far the most visible in the area of the seven West Midlands MEPs, having visited Kenilworth several times over her last 5 year term of office - most recently in March 2009 when she visited Kenilworth Fire Station in support of the retained firefighters' campaign to retain their opt out from the 48 hour working time directive.
