July 1, 2008 6:42 PM
Nigel Rock, Lib Dem PPC and Stratford district councillor for Stockton, Napton & Shuckburgh, has seconded a Lib Dem motion to be debated by Stratford District Council at its next meeting on the 14th July. This is in response to press reports that the Conservative M.P. for Stratford no longer believes in the importance of climate change.
The motion reads:
- Council notes that Mr John Maples MP is reported in the local press as no longer supporting the Climate Change Bill, that he no longer believes that climate change is an urgent issue or that the issue is drastic enough to warrant the inclusion of carbon targets in the Bill,
- Council re-iterates its support for its Corporate Strategy 2008-12, including the aim of securing a reduction in the Council's carbon footprint,
- Council notes and supports the continuing inclusion on its website of the link to help residents 'Find out what your Carbon Footprint is and how you can make some simple changes to help tackle climate change'.
