Nearly two years after the plan was first agreed, and sixteen months after opening discussions over a draft lease for new allotments at Beehive Hill, Kenilworth, the Conservative-controlled Town Council and Conservative-controlled District Council are still at loggerheads over the terms of the lease!
Cllr Ann Blacklock at Beehive Hill allotment site in Sep 2006 - still no progress!
Speaking at the Kenilworth Town Assembly on Thursday evening, Councillor Ann Blacklock (Lib Dem, Kenilworth Abbey) said that it was incredible that things had gone on so long with no real progress. There is a huge demand for allotments in the town, with a waiting list of over one hundred people. The new site will provide 26 much-needed new plots.
The Conservative leader of the Town Council likened the situation to a Brian Rix farce, and there was criticism from Tory town councillors of District Council delays. The irony of course is that many of them are also district councillors, and one of them is the Conservative leader of the District Council!
