Despite two large petitions (one of 285 signatures and the other of 150) and strong support from across the local community, at the moment the County Council is not yet convinced of the case for a pelican crossing on Beehive Hill, Kenilworth.
Cllr. John Whitehouse (Kenilworth Abbey) is leading the fight inside the Council, and is working closely with the St. Augustine's School community and local residents to try to convince county officers.
John says:
"Tests have proved how fast the traffic is on this road. We want to encourage walking and cycling to school, but at the moment crossing the road with children is a nightmare.
So far I've persuaded officers to put the crossing on the list of potential projects for 2008/09, which is a good start. Now we've got to persuade them that a pelican crossing is the only safe solution for this road.
The fight goes on - we must win it!"
