Nigel Rock PPC
At a meeting of Stratford District Council's scrutiny committee on 16th January, Councillor Nigel Rock questioned the exclusive emphasis on Stratford town for the World Class Stratford project. The committee received a report showing that all elements of the project were within the town of Stratford upon Avon . Last year £1.27 million was spent by Stratford District Council on world-class Stratford .
Nigel Rock said "This has come before the Council various times. We have been told that although the world-class Stratford project would be focusing on Stratford as a 'brand', benefits would ripple out to the rest of the District. I have yet to see any evidence of this." He went on to say "Only one fifth of the population live in Stratford town -- is it right that millions of pounds of Stratford district taxpayers' money are spent without benefit to the rest of the District ?"
The World-class Stratford project is intended to support heritage and tourism initiatives. Nigel Rock made strong representations to senior officers of the Council in respect of the Cardall collection in Southam which comprises 2500 objects amassed by residents Jack Cardall. The friends of the Cardall collection are hoping to create a museum for this historical collection, but so far cannot find a suitable home.
Nigel Rock is Prospective Parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Kenilworth and Southam which includes the large rural portion of Stratford District to the east of the town.
