Liberal Democrat town councillor Pat Ryan (Kenilworth Abbey), currently Mayor of Kenilworth, chaired a very successful public meeting on Monday evening on the theme of "Kenilworth and Climate Change". Approximately eighty people attended, representing a wide cross-section of organisations and opinions across the town.

The keynote speaker was George Martin, a local resident, who is Head of Sustainability for Willmott Dixon, one of the UK's largest construction firms. He is also a national voice on sustainability issues, having worked closely with Jonathon Porritt at Forum for the Future and also with government.

In a workshop-style meeting, residents came up with a wide range of ideas for how the local community could address the issue of climate change through local and personal actions and initiatives. A steering group was established, which will put these ideas together into a local action plan.

An excellent beginning to a most important local initiative.
