Newly-elected Kenilworth town mayor Councillor Pat Ryan (Kenilworth Abbey) has selected the locally-based international organisation CORD as his charity for the forthcoming mayoral year.
Pat said:
"CORD is an organisation that was founded forty years ago in Leamington originating with the Anglican churches in this area. Its work is with the victims of conflict around the world.
The focus of its work is to provide education to those whose education has been disrupted by war and conflict, and to help restore the livelihoods of people whose lives have been torn apart by war, by providing vocational training, by helping to restore abandoned farms and so on. In this way it is working to reduce the recurrence of conflict and terrorism which is the inevitable result of leaving people to rot hopelessly in refugee camps. At present it is working in 11 countries world wide.
I have set myself a target of raising at least £3,000 towards its work during this mayoral year."
