District Councillor Nigel Rock
There was a very unusual development at the beginning of the election campaign for Stratford District Council, when no other candidates were nominated for the Stockton and Napton seat. This means that Liberal Democrat District Councillor Nigel Rock will be re-elected "unopposed" to serve the local communities for the next four years.
Nigel said:
"This outcome took me completely by surprise. I had certainly expected a Conservative party candidate to contest the seat, if not a Labour or Independent candidate. I try to keep in touch with the people in Stockton, Napton and Shuckburgh through my newsletters all year round. I am pleased to have been able to help the community and a number of individuals over the past four years and I'll certainly try to continue doing that. It is a great privilege to represent our villages and I will try to live up to the task. I do have some mixed feelings -- in an odd sort of way I would have preferred to have a contest to reinforce my democratic mandate. I thank people for the expressions of support they have given me."
