Rugby & Kenilworth Liberal Democrats estimate that some 1600 households in the constituency could be missing out on help with their pensions worth £3 million per annum.
Nearly four thousand households in Rugby & Kenilworth are already claiming Pension Credit, but national estimates show that only 70% of those who are eligible make a claim.
"I am sure that Gordon Brown had the best of intentions when he introduced Pension Credit" said the Liberal Democrats parliamentary spokesman Richard Allanach, "but what has happened is the introduction of another complex means tested benefit. Many are not claiming the help they need."
Pensioners who think they may be eligible but who have not yet claimed can contact the freephone pension credit hotline 0800 99 1234.
The Liberal Democrats have pledged that they will use the savings from abolishing the Department of Trade and Industry to provide a pension of £105 for all pensioners over 75 (£160 for pensioner couples). "This would lift one million pensioners out of the means test trap" said Richard Allanach.
