The Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Rugby and Kenilworth took on the Labour and Tory party big hitters on the Politics Show this Sunday.
Richard Allanach pointed out that the Tories and Labour had many identical policies. Both the Tory and Labour parties want to take £3 billion out of the policing budget to spend on their ID card scheme. The Liberal Democrats were committed to investing this money in 10,000 extra police on our streets. Both the Tory and Labour parties had supported the war in Iraq. A war which is costing Britain £1.5 billion a year and more importantly has caused many deaths. Finally neither the Tory or Labour parties were taking the issue of the environment seriously. Indeed the most recent document from the Tories calls for a cut in the pollution inspectorate.
Richard Allanach said "I hope viewers found the exchanges as exciting as I did. I think the next thing which will happen is that we will arrange some local debates so that the residents of Rugby and Kenilworth can see in person what they have already seen on the silver screen."
During the debate there was some highly technical stuff flying around on local income tax and the big tax and spend debate. These issues are dealt with in extra briefing notes.
