Rugby & Kenilworth Liberal Democrats met in Kenilworth yesterday for their Annual General Meeting, on the same evening as the traditional switch-on of the Christmas lights in the town centre.
Ann Blacklock
Constituency Chair Cllr. Ann Blacklock (Lib Dem, Kenilworth Abbey) reminded members of a year of successes for local Lib Dems in both Rugby and Kenilworth. She particularly highlighted the Park Hill by-election in Kenilworth in August, which had been a trial of strength ending in a stunning win for the Lib Dems. She also stressed the development of the web site since its launch in March.
Richard Allanach
Prospective parliamentary candidate Richard Allanach spoke of the challenges for the year ahead in an election year. He said that there was a danger Tony Blair would call a snap general election in the New Year, on the excuse
that the House of Lords were not prepared to nod through all seven of his new crime and disorder laws.
At the well-attended AGM, held at the Methodist Church, members elected the following consistency party officers for 2005:
Chair: Ann Blacklock
Vice-Chair: Hilda Fletcher
Secretary: Tom Hardgrave
Treasurer: Beatrice O'Dwyer
Membership Secretary: David Upstone
