Collecting signatures in Talisman Square
People in Kenilworth showed their strong support today for the Liberal Democrat "Axe the Tax" campaign against the Council Tax.
Hundreds of signatures of support for the national petition were collected in Talisman Square in just a couple of hours, with voters united in their opposition to the current Council Tax.
Local campaign organiser John Whitehouse said: "Unlike some other petitions, we make it clear to everyone what our alternative to council tax is, namely local income tax - which is much fairer because it is based on ability to pay, and much cheaper to collect, while retaining local accountability. The overwhelming majority of people we speak to support this idea, so why has Tony Blair seemingly set his mind against it? Could it be because the Lib Dems thought of it first?"
