Councillor Ann Blacklock
Liberal Democrat District Councillor Ann Blacklock (Abbey Ward) has been leading the fight against proposals by Warwick District Council (WDC) to close the toilets at Kenilworth Cemetery, and recently voted against their own party in council to ensure that a proper period of consultation was allowed before any decision was made.
The WDC proposals are based on cost and rates of usage, but Lib Dems believe that other criteria are equally important.
Ann said: "People often travel long distances to attend funerals, and are entitled to expect decent facilities at a place they visit in times of stress. Also, when people come to tend the graves of loved ones they often need to wash their hands after gardening. We believe that the cemetery toilets are a necessity, and should not be included with the others destined for closure."
Warwick District Council are currently conducting a public consultation on the proposals, and you can pick up a form at the Kenilworth Connection, or log on to the WDC web site to register your views. Voting for "OPTION 5" will register your support for keeping the cemetery toilets open, but hurry - the consultation exercise ends on the 15th March.
